Gold Cup Won by the Netherlands
The second oldest Sailing Trophy next to the America?s Cup in the world is won by Hans Nadorp, Frans van Schellen and Erik Wesselman of the Netherlands.
The Cup is raced for since 1919 every year with the exception of 1919 and the second world war. The Scandinavian Gold Cup was made in Sweden by the C. G. Hallberg Goldsmith Company in Stockholm. The drawings were made by Jean Jahnsson jr. and the model by sculptor Alfred Olson. It is gold with diamands and emerald en sitting on an ivory pedestal.
The Cup finalist where for Norway two times winner Kristian Nergard for the Netherlands Hans Nadorp. The first sailor who wins three races wins the Cup after the first three races. After 3 races only those who have won a race go to the finals. Hans Nadorp entered the final with two wins but on the fourth race norway won his second race.
The last race lasted 2,5 hours but was already decided at the start. Hans Nadorp with NED 35 Maitresse brought the cup home to the Netherlands for the very first time since the cup is competed for inthe 5.5 class |
