THE ROYAL KAAG CLASSIC CUP

Rules governing the prize of the Royal Kaag Classic
Cup for the International 5.5 Metre Class.
Article 1
1.1. Origin
The Royal Kaag Classic Cup is a permanent international Challenge Prize, presented by the Royal Yacht Club “de Kaag” during the World Championship 2000 in Medemblik, Holland.
1.2. Competitors
The Cup may be competed annually by yachts of the International 5.5 Metre Class, built before 1970 and registered with recognised yacht clubs.
Article 2
2.1. Next competition
The club which wins the Cup shall have the right to arrange the competition the following year in case the World Championships are held outside Europe , if not, the Classic Cup has to be sailed together with the World Championships and organised by the same Organisation.
2.2. Transfer of rights
The club which has won may transfer the right to another recognised club or ask the Royal Yacht Club “de Kaag” to designate the National Authority under whose auspices the next races are to be sailed.
Article 3
3.1. Notice of Race
A “Notice of Race” in accordance with the ISAF RR shall be distributed by the organising club four month before the first race, to the International 5.5 Metre Class Association and to all National Authorities having registered 5.5 Metre yachts.
3.2. Entries
The final entries are to be delivered to the organising club at least 7 days before the first race. Entries shall specify the following:

a. Name of yacht
b. Sail letters and numbers
c. Name of owner
d. Name of Club
e. Year of building
3.3. Certificate of Rating
The entry shall be accompanied by a valid Certificate of Rating.
Article 4
4.1. Eligibility
Every member of the crew of a competing yacht shall be an amateur as defined by the International Sailing Federation and comply with ISAF regulation 19. The helmsman and at least one other member of the crew shall be nationals or residents of the challenging country.
Article 5
5.1. Rules
The races shall be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing, the rules of the International 5.5 Metre Class , the Notice of Race, the sailing instruction and these rules.
5.2. Jury
An International Jury as defined by the Racing Rules of Sailing shall have overall supervision of the conduct of the event and shall hear and decide all protests.
Article 6
6.1. Course
The course shall be of the “Banana” type. Each leg to be about 1.5 nautical miles. The first leg to be laid in the direction of the wind. Three legs are to be sailed against the wind and three legs downwind. The start shall be against the wind and the finish after the last down-wind leg .or a trapezoid course at the discretion of the organising committee.
6.2. Exceptions
If the conditions do not allow legs of 1.5 nm, these may be reduced to 1.2 nm..
6.3. Minimum length
The minimum total length of the course is to be 7,2 nm. The course must not be shortened.
Article 7
7.1. Time limit
There shall be a time limit of 2,5 hours for the leading yacht in each
race.
Article 8
8.1. Races
Five to seven races are to be scheduled, one or two races a day. Exceptions hereto may be granted with the consent of the President of the class together with one Officer or the International Jury.
8.2. Scoring
Appendix A low point scoring shall apply without a discard. At least 3 races shall be completed to make a valid winner.
Article 9
9.1. Measurement
Before the first race the rating of the entered yachts must be verified by the measurer at the place where the races are to be held.
Article 10
10.1. Cancelling
If only one yacht arrives for the competition, the race will be cancelled.
Article 11
11.1. Cup
The Cup is to be handed over into the care of the winning club and a record of the winning yacht, club, owner and crew shall be made in the Record Book accompanying the Cup. No inscriptions are to be made on the Cup itself.
11.2. Responsability
The winning club undertakes to place the Cup at the disposal of the organising club for the competition of the following year.
11.3. Record Books
All Record Books but not the last one were given to the archives of the Royal Yacht Club “de Kaag” (general manager, Warmond).
Article 12
12.1. Remembrance Prize
The organising club shall present to the helmsman of the winning yacht a cup in remembrance of its victory.
Article 13
13.1. Interpretations
Questions concerning the interpretation of these Rules shall be referred to the Royal Yacht Club “de Kaag”.
Article 14
14.1. Alterations
Alterations to or deviations from these Rules are to be decided by the annual meeting of the International 5.5 Metre Class and/or the Royal Yacht Club “de Kaag”.
